Additional parasuicide information on France is provided in this chapter. It was presented at the 1993 conference in The Netherlands when results of the WHO/EURO study were released. 5,958 persons were referred to emergency wards in 26 general hospitals following an autoaggressive act (psychiatric hospitals not included). Crude incidence event rates: 200/100,000 for men & 330/100,000 for women. These are among the highest found in the multicenter study. The 4 regions of Brittany are profiled.
