Attempted Suicide in a Danish Region 1989 – 1992 (IN: Attempted Suicide in Europe: Findings From the Multicentre Study on Parasuicide…, edited by A J F M Kerkhof et al)

This chapter presents parasuicide (PS) epidemiology for the county of Funen. About one third of the population lives in the city of Odense. 3280 PS events were committed by 2214 persons (458 repeaters). In the 4-year period, PS rates dropped by 21% (males decreased by 16 % & females by 25%). It is notes that rates of completed suicides in Denmark also dropped in 1989-91.) PS rates peaked among adults in their 30s & 40s. Data on time, seasonality & social characteristics are also reported.
