This article examines research related to HIV seropositivity & suicidal ideation & behavior, & its application to terminal illnes situations among the elderly. For example, the time shortly after diagnosis is made has been found to be the period of highest suicide risk. While the lessons to be learned from HIV disease are not new, they serve as reminders that suicidal ideation in the face of terminal illness is complex & must consider a wide range of biological, psychological, & social factors.
