This Editorial discusses key points of a preliminary report concerning assisted suicide among psychiatric patients released November 1993 by a committee of The Royal Dutch Medical Association. (There are probably less than 5-10 assisted suicides among psychiatric patients per year.) Specific cases & recent Supreme Court verdicts are also examined. The author notes the Court has endorsed the liberal & permissive attitudes of the public & caregivers in The Netherlands.
