This first chapter presents an overview by the book’s Editor. An all-inclusive definition of crisis provides the context. The needs of the students & staff, effects of a crisis on a school & its students, & the possible benefits of prior preparation involving staff, parents, & community resources are discussed. Particular focus is given to the grief process. Who/How/Where Guidelines for informing student(s) & others of a loss, as well as possible reactions & complicating factors are discussed.
