The author states that professionals may be contributing to the problems of gay adolescents by not recognizing them & by not dealing with them in a caring, informed & sensitive manner. Keys says that it is important to look at traditional sources of developmental learning & to compare those to the sources available to a gay adolescent male. Professionals must create situations that allow gay youth to feel safe in revealing their own inner struggles with developing their own identities.
