This study hypothesized that use of cognitive-behaviorial strategies, (eg. attributing personal meaning to loss, differentiating grief resolution from devaluaing the deceased, modulating loss response with other life activities, identifying predominant themes of distress, & engaging in health-promotion practices) would significantly predict postmorbid adjustment. 164 widows (hospice programs) completed self-reports 5-11 months after spousal death. Findings corroborated all hypotheses. (65 refs.)
