Symptoms of Depression, Suicidal Behaviour and use of Substances in Greece: a Nationwide General Population Survey

This study investigated the relationship between use of unprescribed licit & illicit drugs & problematic drinking with depressive sumptoms & suicidal behavior in 4291 respondents aged 12 to 64. A higher proportion of illicit drug users were found to be depressed in all age groups & both sexes, than the other groups of substance users. The 12-month prevalence of suicidal ideation & suicide attempts was found to be in accordance with the severity & frequency of substance consumption. (45 refs.)
