28 high school students who witnessed a suicide & the serious injury of another student were assessed 2 months after the event. Their responses were compared to 28 other students who had not been exposed to suicide. The exposed students, when compared to controls, had higher rates of new-onset anxiety disorders & a trend for increased rates of new-onset posttraumatic-stress disorder. Among the exposed students, other predisposing factors included a family history of suicide attempts.
