Each suicide is estimated to directly & immediately affect an average of 6 people. This chapter addresses identification of these “survivors” of a suicide, what distinguishes their bereavement & it provides fundamental & essential information & guidelines for practitioners responding to survivors after a suicide. It encourages greater responsiveness of clinicians & includes a discussion of postvention for individuals & family, self-help groups & school-based postvention programs. (17 refs.)
