The characteristics of 75 suicide attempters in Shanghai & the effects of crisis intervention management of these people are reported. Most of the subjects were under 35 years of age & had poor relationships with parents or partners. 77.3% of the attempters improved their coping abilities through supportive psychotherapy & brief problem-oriented psychotherapeutic management. It is suggested that crisis intervention can be an immediate, effective & practical approach to suicide prevention.
