Most people attribute the cause of their mental health problems to their job. However, a critical examination must include consideration of other factors, including personality susceptibility & stress outside work. For example, surveys with a general health questionnaire have shown that 6% of interns had thoughts of suicide. Stressors included overwork, effect of work on personal life, relationship with consultant, & clinical decision making. (14 refs.)
