This chapter reviews clinical risk factors of suicide – those pertaining to the individual’s psychological state & immediate environment – & discusses cognitive characteristics of suicidal individuals. model of suicidal behaviour, with helplessness as the key psychological variable, is presented. Included is an overview of assessment scales utilized by clinicians: Beck Depression Inventory, Scale for Suicide Ideation, Suicide Intent Scale, & the Beck Hopelessness Scale.
