Nurses are often the first to observe the behavioral & clinical manifestations of multiple personality disorder (MPD). This article is intended to increase nurses’ knowledge & awareness of these manifestations so that they will become more adept at recognizing this disorder thereby shortening the time that MPD goes unrecognized. Accurate diagnosis is essential. Specific clinical & behavioral indicators are veviewed as well as questions that elicit diagnostic information. (10 Refs.)
