This presentation notes some of the milestones achieved since suicidology was recognized as a science & reports on 2 studies performed in France. A survey of public opinion on suicide & depression indicates a great deal of confusion in the public mind about suicide. Many or most deny that clinical states known to facilitate suicide risk could engender serious suicidal thinking in themselves. The results of a survey of attitudes of psychiatrists toward suicidal risk are also presented.
