This presentation reports on a study utilizing a mass screening concept as a pre-test identifier of at-risk adolescents, the development of a competency-based prevention group treatment program, & post-testing of the at-risk population to empirically evaluate the program for effectiveness in reducing suicidal ideation & depressive symptoms. 2 instruments were used with 109 students at a midwestern high school. Mass screening was found to be useful for early identification of at-risk youth.
