Self-reported depression & suicidal ideation among Hispanic American & African-American high school students was explored. Hispanic students had significantly higher scores on the Beck Depression Inventory. Hispanic students were more likely to have serious suicidal ideation but the 2 groups did not differ on hopelessness scores. The results of this study encourage further assessment of the conclusion that Hispanic students may show greater depression & suicidal ideation than African-Americans.
