In this brief letter to the editor, Sachdev & Loneragan agree with Dr. Ayd that if there is any association between akathisia & suicide, it is rare. They offer 3 reasons why such an association may exist, saying that they believe that suicide attempts may be another indicator of the unrelenting distress caused by akathisia. They also say that the possibility that akathisia may influence suicidal behaviour by increasing impulsivity cannot be discounted. (4 refs.)
