In this letter to the editor, the authors discuss their study of the effects of fluoxetine on suicidal preoccupation in a sample of 206 patients. They did not find that even one patient demonstrated intense suicidal preoccupation, despite the prediction of Teicher & associates that 1.3%-7.5% of patients given Fluoxetine would experience such an effect. Ashleigh & Fesler’s results agree with other studies which suggest that this phenomenon may be more rare than originally suggested. (2 refs.)
