The author discusses three new elements which were introduced into the process of investigating inmate suicides. These are: 1) exploration of the possible existence of significant pre-indicators of suicidal intent; 2) a new training program to help investigators identify the kinds of questions that an investigation can & should answer; & 3) a set of guidelines outlining some of the main factors commonly present in the situations of people who complete suicide.
