A 16-item inventory of myths about suicide was given anonymously to all 63 officers in one department. On many of the items which have practical importance, few officers agreed with the myth, e.g. only 3.2% believed that all suicides leave a note. Accuracy was lower on the more academic items which have little relevance for police officers. Those officers who had considered suicide at some point in their lives (only six) were more accurate than those who had never considered suicide. (1 ref.)
