This article summarizes a cohort study at Duke University by Blazer et al. which claims that “baby boomers” (those born between 1946 & 1966) will be committing suicide at an alarming rate. Baby boomers were found to have a higher rate of depression than other age cohorts, possibly due to a more competitive job market, freqent divorce & feelings of alienation. Blazer also discusses the lack of attention & resources for the elderly, considering their high rates of suicide. (VM)
