This study analyzed the clinical records of 53 shizophrenic in-patients who committed suicide, & of 53 controls using demographic, psychosocial & clinical variables. Univariate analysis of the data indicated an early disturbed psychosocial adjustment, more severe mental illness, unsatisfactory social situation, & more frequent suicidal behavior in the suicide group. Schizophrenia was identified at an earlier age among the suicide victims, as well as earlier negative psychosocial adjustment. (VM)
