This article describes the disorders most strongly linked to completed suicide & attempted suicide. The depressed phase of affective disorder & alcoholism are associated with the highest risk for suicide, & the author describes the symptoms of each. The author also asserts that shizophrenia – although it is usually thought to be linked to a large proportion of deaths by suicide – is not. The author outlines predictors of suicide, communication of intent, & precipitating events. (VM)
