The authors used several national databases to examine the effect of the economy, as reflected by employment & unemployment rates, on motor vehicle fatalities, suicides & homicides. Statistical analysis found no evidence to indicate that knowledge of yearly values of employment, unemployment, & nonlabour force leads to improved forecasts of the level of motor vehicle fatalities, suicides or homicides in the total American population or within various subpopulations.
