The Suicide Opinion Questionnaire (SOQ) was administered to 2 samples of medical students from Japan & the USA. Statistical analysis indicated significant differences on the Right to Die, Normality & Aggression scales between the 2 groups, & significant gender differences on the Religion & Impulsivity scales. No gender by nationality interaction was obtained. An analysis of individual SOQ items revealed substantial differences between Japanese & American students in their views on suicide.
