This article, a review of 6 known suicides in a psychiatric training centre, concentrates on an examination of the psychotherapeutic relationship in which the patient committed suicide while in psychotherapy. Particularly highlighted is the role of rejection by the therapist in the eventual suicide. The psychotherapeutic relationship is examined in the light of psychoanalytic concepts of the psychodynamics of depression & transference-countertransference. (5 refs.)
