Adolescents and Destructive Themes in Rock Music: a Follow-up

Findings of a follow-up on rock music preferences & of views of themes advocating homicide, suicide & satanic practices (HSSR) are reported. 91 of 120 SS (age 13-18 yrs) were fans of rock music. Of those, 54% were HSSR fans. HSSR fans were more likely to be white, school dropouts, & to assume that HSSR lyrics to not lead to destructive acts. Findings suggest a strong relationship between a preference for rock music with destructive themes & antisocial or destructive behaviour. (22 refs.)
