Officer Suicide in the Los Angeles Police Department: a Twelve-Year Follow-Up

The suicide rate of officers at the LAPD continues to remain lower than the rates for other adults in the county, state & nation. However the trends toward an increasing officer suicide rate & the representation of minority female officer suicides in recent years suggest an increase in stressors & problems unique to the groups affected. Research of police suicide continues to be sparse. Until more comprehensive research is done, it isn’t possible to generalize about police suicides. (12 refs.)
