Examines completed suicides among status Indians in Manitoba from 1973-82. Although the overall average suicide rate is 40.15/100,000 there are striking variations in this rate in different communities & groupings of communities across the province. The most remote communities have the lowest rate of suicide. Conversely, the southernmost have the highest rates. Theories of social integration & acculturation are discussed as possible explanations for differential rates. (11 refs.)
