This article reviews the sociological theories of Durkheim, Gibbs, etc. Statistics on suicide rates & method, age, race, sex & marital status are provided. Diagnostic clues of high risk groups are outlined, including the treatment & characteristics of groups such as prisoners, survivors of the suicide of a loved one, & chronically depressed hospital patients.
