Demonstrates the impact of Bowen’s family systems theory & practice on the hospital treatment of children & adolescents. The role of the family therapist in serving as a liaison between the young person, family members & the treatment team is described. 2 of the 8 interlocking concepts in Bowen’s theory are discussed: triangles & nuclear family emotional process. Case examples include that of a high school girl who attempted suicide & a 13-yr-old boy who was placed on probation for shoplifting.
