Suicide & self-injury in-patients were identified on the basis of a retrospective content analysis of special incidence reports completed the preceding year at an urban state psychiatric hospital. Select clinical & biodemographic variables were then examined, & in order to determine the importance of these variables in the prediction of incident severity, a multiple regression analysis was performed. Schizophrenic patients were found to be significantly over-represented among both groups.
