International Comparison of Mortality From Suicide

This article compares the suicide rate of the United States with those in Europe, Canada & other developed countries. It provides a breakdown by sex & age, & outlines the differences between countries. As well, international trends from 1960 to 1987 are described. The authors speculate about why suicide rates differ from country to country. Possible reasons include alcohol abuse, prevention programs, & social attitudes. (VM)
