The suicide rate of people over 65 is the highest of any age group. Elderly white men are the main reason these rates are so high, as elderly women and minorities have very low rates. The motivations for suicide often include the loss of physical capabilities, illness, the loss of employment, financial security & prestige, & the loss of social interaction due to the deaths of friends & spouses.
