The intake of an overdose of drugs represents an important part of acute hospital admissions. Although the general mortality of self-poisoning is very low (< 1%), the mortality of patients admitted to the intensive care unit remains between 5-10%. A small number of cases is responsible for an important morbidity & mortality. In order to specify the actual trend of self-poisoning in their region, the authors retrospectively examined 120 cases admitted during January 1985-July 1987.
