This survey compared the number of suicides by pesticides from 1961-1984 in Voivodina, Hungary. There were 381 suicides for a suicide rate of 20.5%. In 1960, of 80 poisoning cases, 29 or 36% were caused by pesticides. In 1984, there were 528 suicides, 44 which were due to poison, & 7 or 15% were with pesticides. The authors conclude that better control of pesticides on the market, quicker transport to hospitals, & more effective treatment contributed to the reduction of pesticides in suicide.
