A review of studies on the variation in suicidal behaviour over the menstrual cycle identified only five studies with data presented in sufficient detail that they could be pooled, providing a sample of 400 menstruating women. A deficit in acts of attempted suicide in week three of the cycle was revealed, & it was suggested that this supports a hormonal explanation of the variation. (18 refs.)
