Suicides Down for 1989

This brief article presents the suicide rates in Great Britain from 1980 to 1989, & reports that the number of suicides dropped in 1989 by 12% overall, from 4,818 to 4,232. The 1988 rate was a marked increased from 1986 or 1987, however. As well, male suicide was found to still be rising – particularly among young men – while female suicide is decreasing. (VM)
