This chapter opens with a brief discussion of the formation of Pakistan in 1947 & current social structures. Attitudes toward suicide are determined by religion & law; suicide is primarily a sin & subsequently a crime. Data is provided on completed suicides & suicide attempts in Karachi over the period 1976-1978. Further information is provided on 25 cases of attempted suicide that occurred in the first quarter of 1979. (2 refs.)
