Studied the extent to which social structure determines the rate & distribution of suicide in India. Study data came from a report entitled “Accidental Deaths & Suicides in India 1979” prepared by the Ministry of Home Affairs in India & released in 1982. The findings indicate that more men than women commit suicide, the suicide rate decreases with age & highly urbanized centers do not exhibit the highest suicide rate. No direct cause & effect relationship was found between literacy & suicide.
