This article discusses the high rate of suicide in Canada since the 1970s. Dr. Isaac Sakinofsky of the University of Toronto expects the rate to increase even more. He presented a study at the annual meeting of the American Psychiatric Association. He found the rate rose in the 70s, in part due to unemployment & educational variables, & in the 80s, the high rate was due to family-related variables. Suicide rates for all the provinces are also included. (VM)
