Asserts that findings that prednisone administered to 12 healthy volunteers did not significantly alter cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) levels but did significantly reduce CSF levels of somatostatin & several pro-opiomelanocortin-related peptides. Questions but does not rule out P. Braunig’s hypothesis (see PA, Vol 76:40754) that the high incidence of suicidality in corticosteroid-induced (CI) psychoses might be related to CI lowering of brain serotonin levels.
