Examined whether chronic self-destructiveness in teenagers was related to depression & suicidal preoccupation. 20 male & 38 female high school students were administered a chronic self-destructiveness scale & the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). In males, scores on the self-destructive inventory were more strongly associated with the presence of suicidal ideation than scores on the BDI; for females, scores on the BDI were more strongly associated with suicidal ideation.
