Discusses & analyzes the suicide of Gabrielle Russier, a French high-school teacher who was sentenced to a year in prison following an affair with her 17-year-old student. Following a prosecution appeal for a stiffer sentence, she killed herself. The author suggests that, while Gabrielle appeared to have behaved immaturely, the French criminal justice system was overly harsh & sexist.
