Citing a finding that 20% of patients with panic disorder report having attempted suicide, the author suggests that panic disorder & repeated panic attacks should be included as major risk factors for suicide. Discusses recognition & effective treatment of conditions known to be associated with a high risk of suicide as one way that physicians can participate in suicide prevention. (7 ref)
