The relationship between intropunitiveness & depressive states was examined in interview intervention with parasuicidal inpatients. 48 subjects were randomly assigned to a cognitive interview, an affective interview, or a waiting period. Highly intropunitive individuals in the cognitive interview group showed the most improvemments on a self-report depressive symptom change measure. Results support theroretical models of depressive state changes. The study has important clinical implications. CM
