A retrospective study of adolescent & young adult (age 15-29) suicides in Gothenburg, Sweden from 1984-1987 by means of interviews with survivors (n=58). In 41%, major depression was a background to suicide. A total of 64% had a form of depressive syndrome, 14% were schizophrenic, 28% had a personality disorder, & 47% were substance abusers. A majority of the subjects (72%) were known by psychiatric caregivers & 16% committed suicide during inpatient care. (CM)
