A letter to the editor concerning anabolic androgenic steroids & suicide. Recent cases indicate some steroid users become depressed & suicidal. Depression is most likely in the first 3 months after discontinuation. Antidepressant medication used with cocaine withdrawal deserves a study trial in steroid withdrawal. Psychiatrists need to be alerted to the use of steroids & the risk of suicide. More research is needed to assess psychoactive effects of steroids & find the best treatment. (CM)
