The author adds 2 points to an article by McGrath on deliberate self-poisoning. He questions the validity of a misdiagnosis McGrath said occurred. He also believes benzodiazepine agents may occasionally be overprescribed but unequivocal evidence does not exist to support McGrath’s view that they are “obviously overprescribed”. He concludes that the use of any psychotherapeutic agent is questionable when it is the only form of management. (CM)
